The past several weeks have been so busy. And not the kind of busy that is fun, rather the kind that sneaks in and demands all your time. Our family has pushed through it, taking each moment one step at a time. Yet, we are tired, or more accurately… exhausted; to the point that the thought of "doing" one more thing almost brought tears to my eyes. So we made an intentional choice to stop "doing" and instead chose to "be" - to be present with one another. It took on different forms for each of us as the week unfolded.
For my daughter and I, it meant packing a lunch and heading to the local park. We brought our cameras with us and captured the spectacular sights of the fall scenery. We learned new facts about the park and saw things in nature that ordinarily we would have passed by, unknown of their presence. It was another reminder of how creative and big God is! And it was just what we needed. I’m so glad that God never grows weary or tired. He is our constant and we can fully rely on Him.
Isaiah 40:28-29 (ESV)
28 Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Maybe you find yourself in a similar situation. Tired. Exhausted. Overwhelmed. Take a moment to "be" and to experience rest and refreshment that actually refuels and resets your body, soul, and mind. This kind of rest only comes from the Lord.
I’m thankful that God created each of us uniquely different. He knows exactly how to give us the rest we need. For some of us, like me, we need that gentle reminder to slow down, and refuel. We tend to take on more than we need to in a given week. Or we forget to take time to refresh ourselves. Does any of this sound familiar? Can you relate to it?
We here at New Day Planners, want to help you to keep pace in life by adding gentle reminders along the way. That’s why we created four questions you can ask yourself each week to help you do so. Over the next couple of weeks I will unfold one question at a time, so we can really process it together.
For now, get a pulse on what you need in life. Take a moment to “be” present with the Lord and others, finding the rest you truly seek.
